Bead-Abrasive Blasting Question.......

Any of you who bead blast alot or work at places that do have any intimate knowledge of blasting media called "Black Slag" grit???

I usually always use Alumn. Oxide grit but was wondering if this would do the same on firearms for refinish work??? It looks like a black version of Oxide grit with a abrasive look to it and is cheap at the home center but the bag didn't say anything about metal working with it. Would this work at least as well??
