Who does powder coat finishes?

I have two sets of handguards from SAR-48s. They have that shiney black finish. These also came with scratches from bipods. Anyone know a reputable gunsmith who can refinish these with the same powder coat finish as DSA handguards?

Try a speed shop/hotrod place. Powder coat is in vogue these days and many places will powder coat (in a ton of colors too) for cheap. You can probably find one close to home and get a quicker turn around than a gunsmith anyway.

Hey, we had a customer that wanted us to do his trap shotgun in flourescent red with bright green accents!!! He was serious, had the gun in one hand and the money in the other!!!! Unfortunately, we could not help him out. We have no molly kote in those colors! Keep yer powder dry, Mac.

Anybody use $100 powder coating unit from Harbor Freight? Thought it might be useful for doing the occasional AR reciever and small parts.

Have you tried MolyCoat? Brownells has a matte black in a spray can that I used to redo my handguards, as well as several other gun parts. Just heat the oart to about 75 degrees, spay on in a couple of light coats, bake at 350 and voila. Good as new.

BTW, this works on the Argentine plastic handguards. Just bake at 300 for an hour. It stinks, so do it outside (unless you have a very understanding spouse).
