Radar detector recomendation- Florida

Hi there! I`m looking for decent radar detector good enough for Florida. Mostly turnpike and FHP equipment detection.

I`m aware `bout top brand names in detectors wars and prices of top of the line mpdels, just do not want to blow that kind of money if not necessery.
I think 1km (1000yds) reach with over the hill capability on the lesser distance will be enough.

What kind of hardware FHP is using these days anyway?

I have had the Escort Passport 8500 for about 3 years now. She has never let me down. I did a lot of research on the V1 as well. I felt the 8500 would suit my needs best.

Situational Awareness is the key. Don't be way out in front being Smoky Bait. It is a good tool to utilize, but nothing replaces awareness.

There is only one radar detector, the Valentine V1.

Like Burt said, situational awareness (and behavior) are most important. Don't stare at the car ahead of you, look as far down the road as you can see. Keep right unless passing. Watch your mirror. Watch oncoming traffic- make it a game to ID the type of car at least 1/2 mile away.

I haven't had a radar detector (or ticket) in over three years (wife got it), and I routinely run 90 on NY highways. But if I did have one, it would be the V1.

CB is also a good investment.

Take it from the Cannonball One Lap of America drivers. They all use V1s, and all carry CBs.

Yeah I know... I drove 10 years w/o speeding ticket. I`m good at it. I have fast bike too ...

Since I got high end sport car recently I`m in the different category now. I pay just for looking fast, not actual speed . ...
There are some types of thread you wont be able to dodge even with highes awarness.
Last month I was fried by incoming radar in unmarked moving cruiser. I did`nt even knw it is legal to shoot from incoming moving vehicle! I`m getting often confused by laws in different jurisdictions.

I was on the slow line behind another vehicle plus there was more cars in the fast line hauling ass going the same dirrection as me. Guess who got stopped....

I will no longer drive with my lights on on the expressway, projection lights just point you from far away to LEO, rich customer is driving! Add color red (kinda burgundy but that is what he put on the ticket, RED ...) and you have to pay moving tax... I work to hard for my money to give it upo to the insurance companies, actual ticket fine would not be biggie once a while.

If I have to I will spend $330 on Bel. but I think it is kinda overkill for thread scenario I face on turnpike. Just looking for your expirience...

I appreciate your insight mparrish. But you know that instant on devices are not that popular and I think those are less than single didgit percent nationwide.
I also do not worry for lasers as they cant be shot from incoming moving vehicle.

Lastly even cheap...()

OK now I`m gettin` it thanx Derby! Yes garage door openers and stuff...

Some devices will set the detectors off like the red light changers and infrared alarms, etc...

buy a car that has "speed control" and use it.
That has saved me from more tickets then anything else.
years ago I had a "fuzzbuster II" and about every 6 months the radar people switch sides and come out with radar to beat the radar detector and then detector to beat the radar. It is all another money making scam.
If you drive 5 or 10 over you are usually safe unless you are leading the pack. And even 5 over doesnt always work. I had my cruise set for 5 over and I picked up 4 more going down a hill and the sheriff was there with my ticket for NINE over!! $80 later and all was well. another money making scam.
