Shorty build question - Front sight post

On a short gas system build (moved back 3.25") with a 16.25" barrel what sight post would you recommend. If I recall correctly I will need a taller one due to the shorter barrel lenght. But which one would I need: 1 dot, 2 dot, 3 dot, 4 dot? Build is a standard Imbel with type 1 lower. I will be using a DCI receiver.

TIA

My 16" shorty with the short gas system (DSA short handguard length) requires the rear aperture to be set on 500 or 600 to hit center at 25 yards with a two-dot front sight using a conventional lower receiver and bolt carrier.

However, the same upper assembly, when mated with a para lower receiver, para bolt assembly, and para rear sight (set on 150) shoots to center at 25 yards. Seems to me I should be needing more elevation with this setup. But, "the proof is in the puddin!"

So in other words, it's best to build it, fire it, and then determine what I need.

It's the change in the lowers, more than likely, plus the para sight.

Put the two lowers side by side, with the mating surfaces to the uppers even, then see what the height above the mating surfaces, to each aperture is.

Bet the Para aperture is higher.

For your standard lower, you might go to an Izzy or inch rear sight. If that's too high, for additional fine tuning, you might go to a higher front sight to balance things out.

And yeah, build it, sight it in, take measurements, then you can figure out how to balance the beast out if necessary.

On my shorty L1A1 I had to lower the front sight by a couple turns but that was all did. Pretty much in the ball park on first couple shots.

Same for me on my IMBEL. I have a 12" barrel and a 4.5" fake FH.

I don`t know if this helps..

In my experiances with shorties, they almost always required a #2 dot

When DSA sends me a Shorty frontend, it always seems to have a filed down post, that is very close to a #1 dot.

My recomendation , would be to have a #2 dot on hand.
