DO NOT CUT A GOOD HEAVY BARREL!!!! If you choose not to use them sell them and buy std. barrels. I saw a belgian HB on ebay, I bid $70.00, a little high,Sarco say's they had some for $50.00 but getting anything from them is nearly impossible. The one on ebay? Sold for around $225.00! There is another one on there now. Sell, don't cut! Do a search for fn/fal on ebay and look at what the others sell for.

Your wrong Dino, some guy paid $ 261.00 for a used, HB with pitting in the bore!!
Here's the scoop on Belgian HB's. The one that was sold and the one that is currently for auction are 99.99% most likely made for the Israeli issue HB FAL. Belgium made the first Israeli FAL's. Israel eventually bought the rights to build and took over their own FAL production. These early Belg HB's were not chome lined and most of the rifles heavily used and the bores shot out. I had a number of these barrels that I sawed in half at the gas port to see if the rear half was even worth using for a 12" shorty!! If you can find a Belg HB with a nice bore that's great. A Belg HB built for Israel will have to grooves cut across the top of the barrel where the gas block goes. The front cut is where the gas block retaining pin goes and the rear cut is where the handguard screw goes across. A true Belg FALO barrel ( Belg HB made for Belg and other countries) will NOT have a rear slot for the handguard screw. There will also be some flats on the sides of the barrel where the keeper clip for the front of the short handguards engages. I'm afraid the first buyer didn't buy what he thought he was getting???? Thanks L/FN
I guess what i have then is a true FALO barrel. didn't really know the difference ... but when i lay the two together I see the difference one is as you discribed and the other is the izzy thing . but looking at the bores ,, these look as if they have never been fired as the rifling is sharp and crisp all the way down ... guess I won't cut it off then ... where do i find a muzzle break for this thing then ? Thanks Ken |
