Question Rear Sight

I purchased a taller Israeli rear sight for my STG and it came with a " S" shaped spring. When I removed the sight from my STG it had no spring. Is this spring needed and I am not sure how to install this spring. Any help? Thanks

I'm kind of wondering what the point was to install a tall rear sight on an StG-58 which has a short front sight...

Oh well, getting back to your question, on the bottom of the sight, if it is Z spring compatible, there is a milled out slot for the spring to sit in. The ends of the Z legs fit inot little notches so that the ends are point respectivly towards the screw heads when installed. On Z spring matching screw heads, there are serrations on the underside that engage the ends of the spring. This setup acts like a sort of detent system. Properly installed, you can feel "clicks" when you twist the screws. Conceivably, this will give you repeatable windage adjustments. However, the FAL rear battle sight is so sloppy, it is my opinion that the Z spring has dubious value.

HTH.

FALPHIL , My STG has a tall Argentine gas block and I had to run the front sight post all the was down in the gas block. The fix is a Tall Israeli rear sight and a #6 Israeli front sight post. The sight had only one notch milled out for the "S" spring . Steve

Hey Steve, have you tried to zero your rifle since you changed out your rear sight assembly,I'am just curious as I have the same set up on my STG clone with the open eared Argentine barrel,I'am using a Isreali tall rear sight aperture with a Isreali #2 front sight post, although I probably need to go to a Isreali #3 front post as my #2 Isreali front sight post is just about bottomed out,I was just curious as a #6 Isreali front post just seems very tall for this combo.HTH

I was told by several people that I would need the #6 but I haven't finished building the rifle. My first STG with the ARG barrel I will convert to the taller rear sight and #6 if the setup works on my new rifle. Steve
