Guys P.O. Won't Accept Rifle. Arrgghh!!

I bid on a near excellent condition P-14 Enfield, Winchester (har-har-har), but guy emails me to tell me FEDEX wants $98(!!!) to send it and I KNOW Priority will be less spendy, but guy told me his P.O. won't accept from individuals.

What is a collector to do!

I sent him the website addys for the P.O. regs and also the BATF's, hopefully he will be able to edumicate his Postmaster. If not...I don't know if I am willing to pay 1/4 of the cost of the rifle added on just for shipping. And the killer: FEDEX has no reps here in this tiny 'burg, so when it gets to Anchorage, they'll mail it to me via the P.O.! AAARRRggggghhh!

I say he should go to another PO location..... best of luck and I hope it reaches you safely...

I NEVER tell them what it is if it is firearm parts..I just insure it and make sure I have a invoice of some sort in case i need to claim a loss.... AFAIK-- IF THE RIFLE IS BROKEN DOWN then there is supposed to be NO issues...

That sucks... again best of luck...

What manner of shipment did the seller promise in the contract?

It is legal for the PO to ship long guns to an FFL from an individual. Some of the clerks are not aware of that though. I once had an argument with a PO clerk when I tried to ship a reproduction musket, not even a firearm by federal law. He asked what was in the box since it was so long (which is against postal regulations -they can only ask liquid, perishable hazardous etc. - and I told him. Poor idiot just about had a cow so I told him to go look it up in the regs himself or get a supervisor. It took about a half hour for him to come back and he reluctantly took the package. I then reminded him that he is not supposed to ask me about what specifically is in the box and he repeated the liquid, perishable, hazardous line. So either have the seller go to another PO or demand that the clerk look up the regulations while he waits. Or even have him bring a copy of the regs with him.

Not true. The receiver is still considered a firearm.

Under federal law, not USPS shipping regulations - do not get them confused - they define things differently. A firearm receiver or frame by itself is a firearm under title 18 and 27 CFR but NOT under the postal regulation for how it must be shipped.
