Rasmussen, yes, he is good at polling Republican intramural races. Not so good at polling R vs D races.

Obama vs Paul

Five other polls show Obama up by 7 to 11%

Obama vs Romney

Another poll shows Obama beating Romney by 10% in battleground states

Google "rasmussen poll bias for republicans" and see what you get.

Oh, I agree that Rasmussen is biased towards the GOP, and especially biased against RP since he is the only real threat to their establishment, which makes the results all the more interesting. Even though they tend to lean left, I have found PPP to be the best at polling, and they argue that a very good case could be made for Paul running the strongest against Obama because he pulls in the most independents of any GOP candidate and manages to steal more democrats than anyone else. It is interesting though, that despite the GOP bias, Rasmussen has Santorum and Newt losing to Obama, but Paul winning along with Romney.

As far as Real Clear averages, they don't matter that much because it takes many of the major polls into account, and you have already correctly pointed out how some are so biased they typically are very far off. There have been individual state polls in four of the main seven battleground states lately that show RP beating Obama by 7 in Iowa, by one in Ohio, and tying him in Virginia, too. I think from seeing how well the Paul name does against Obama it is obvious why Romney is wanting a "Paul" on the ticket, but I don't think it will happen -- which won't be from a lack of Romney trying.

RP and Romney have been the only two GOP candidates over the last year or so to consistently pull within the margin of error or beat Obama in a wide spectrum of polls. There have been other GOP candidates who might do it for a few weeks, but then they collapse. RP and Romney have been doing it for a long time. We know how Romney gets the big push from Foxnews and the rest, but it is very surprising how consistently well RP has done against Obama, and goes against the conventional wisdom.

Be careful about referencing pork products and politics because the SPLC might consider that hate speech.
