Unhappy Crap

Well, my MIL has finally passed after decades of abusing her body. Smoking, poor diatary choices, and just an angry disposition toward life took their toll.
I`m sad for my wife because she has spent the last 4 years caring for her. It has been exteemely hard for her to watch the slow spiral to death. Depression is a killer. Couple that with a 4 pack a day cig habbit and Diabetis, its a wonder she made it to 75.

My wife is wreck.
A funeral is a hell of a way to start a holiday weekend.

Bummer. Give the wife a 4x401 hug from me.

Sad to hear the loss of family. My condolences to your wife and my best wishes for you in your emotional support of her. The feeling of relief will soon overtake the feeling of loss as your wife recognizes that her mother is now free of the pain and suffering that ruled the last years of her existence.

The holiday does get changed, when it is accompanied by a funeral.

Sorry about your wife's mother - it is a difficult thing no matter how 'ready' she is for the event.

God bless you and yours - you are in my prayers.

I pray that life will get so much better for you and the wife, as there is a bright side to all the recent grief, time will help heal, it always does.

I appreciate the thoughts and prayers guys, thankyou.

Things are slowly returning to normal. The most prominent issue in my mind is I need to spend more time with my own mom. This event really brought home to me that she and I are both aging fast. Time is getting short, for all of us.

I wish your family the best, Rich.

I can relate to the subject, as I see my mom about once per year, and she'll turn 70 next year.

Thanks Andy, I appreciate it.

WOW, once a year! That is really tough.
The crappy thing is that we all tend to let "life" get in the way of our familys.
I`m guilty myself, and it has to change. I`m very fortunate that my mom lives about 2 miles away.

So, no more excuses. My wife is gone every Tuesday evening, I`m commiting that night for mom time.

Sorry for your family's loss and suffering.

Seems like more families are actually like what is described than the pablum we were fed through popular imagery.

My mom lives in Guatemala, so it's not easy to see each other.

4X401, Hope things are getting better at home, I know what you mean about spending time with the folks, my Mom was in an head on collision in PDX, in the end of july, broke every bone except her spine, skull and right arm and almost lost her right foot, she may get to go home in another week, she is a registered nurse, so is helping in her healing, what a mess.

My Ol Dad blew his Brains out in 97, so I regret not spending more time with him.

Best wishes for you and yours, Dave.

Thank you W.E.G.

I beleive every generation has dealt with its own brand of "Dysfunction" in one form or another. I see very distinct differences in my own girls attitudes about certian things. Some good, some bad. Bottom line is that they are good people and I`m proud of that.

Thank you too Dave.

You mom sounds alot like mine, tough old birds from growing up in tough times. Its hard to believe she could suffer through all that and still be kicking, praise God.

Sorry you have had to live with your father leaving like that, I can`t imagine.
My father is still around, lives in New Mexico. He walked out on my mom, brother and I when I was 12. I`ve seen him about 6 times the last 38 years. He`s never made it a priority to communicate so I don`t either. I`d like that to change, but again, I have alot on my own plate. My mom has ALWAYS been there for me, and I aim to make sure she`s cared for. Dad on the other hand never sent a dime of support to help out, but was able to send his second wifes kid through college. Ka SaRa, SaRa.

I'm sorry for your loss. And I understand the feelings that develop when you watch a loved one moving closer to the end yet they don't take steps to prevent it. My grandfather died of emphysema and smoked even once he was to the point he was on oxygen. I think they just get the idea in their heads that it doesnt matter once they are to a certain point and it is indeed sad to watch.

I wish you the best. Keep the wife close. I'm sure you need each other more than ever.
