I have ruined one buttstock tool already---the only way I am going to
get the original maranyl stock off is to cut it. Where would be the best place to cut to gain access to the buttplate nut and get it off? Pete

I think I would get a piece of steel bar, and fashion screwdriver that I could hammer on before I would try cutting the stock off.
If you bugger the steel bar, you can just grind it back to size, and keep banging and twisting until it lets go. If the nut is really siezed, the recoil tube will probably let go from the upper receiver, and you can unscrew the whole tube from it.

Give it a good soaking with WD40 or breakfree.. Pour it down the opening for the recoil tube from the strike plate opening and let it sit for a couple hours then get a screwdriver with a big ass blade on it and crack it open.

KROIL---
I use a 19" breaker bar on tough to move stuff. Get an extension and a large hex shaft flathead screwdriver. place in socket of right size and apply torque. Lower is in BIG vise and occasionaly I will have one of my son's push down on the tool while I turn to keep it "in the grove".,kinda like marvin gay. Good luck. OHC |

I will most definitely second trying Sili Kroil for a penetrating oil. That stuff is the best product I've ever used when it comes to that need.

Those butt plate nuts can be a real bear to get off. The threads are fine, so it takes just a small amount of dirt/grime to lock them up. My recoil tube came off at the lower receiver, then after repeated cycles of PB Blaster and a torch with the tube locked in a vise, the nut finally broke with a breaker bar.
