Need some ID help.
I have a chance to buy some 9mm para. The person who has it says the headstamp is two stars with the numbers 11 and 52. It is in a crate that says imported by Interarms of Alexandria Va and 2000 rounds non corrosive. The headstamp guides give it possibly being made in Yugoslavia, China, or South Africa. They want $450 for the 2000 rounds. Is this information correct and is this a decent buy?

It is Yugoslavian Military surplus from 1952.
Interarms imported a lot of surplus ammo from countries like Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia way back when to sell on the US commercial market. check this page out. http://books.google.com/books?id=3a9...page&q&f=false ...If you scroll down a few pages to the Yugoslavian headstamp section there is one shown that is exactly how you describe only dated 53 instead of 52. I don't have any experience with the Yugo 9mm Para from that period, but judging from their 1950s 8mm Mauser, I would count on hard primers and weak brass. Also, it will be berdan primed and will definitely be corrosive no matter what the case or the seller says. I would personally pass at that price, since I would likely pull down most of it for the powder and bullets. If it were ten cents a round, maybe. |

Check AIM Surplus for brand new LVE (Russian) 9mm for about 17cents/rd delivered. I just bought several cases and it is NONcorrosive and decent quality practice/plinking ammo.
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...Box&groupid=46 They will also sell you new Swiss GECO Boxer/Noncorrosive 9mm for less than those guys want for that 50year old surplus! |

I believe it's Czech and would be corrosive. Wal-Mart has 250 round boxes of brand new Rem-UMC headstamped 9mm 115 gr FMJ for $51.
Not a deal in my opinion. Kev |
