What kind of gun do I have here??
I've got this 1911 style pistol in .38 Super, looks really nice (probably been re-finished), shoots great (better than I do), but I can't find a manufacturer name or country of origin. Suspect it probably an Argentine Ballister-Molina, but that is just a hunch from someone who looked at it. It has a five digit serial number on the right side of the frame, above the trigger opening, and a faint proof mark (I think) behind that. Any ideas??
I'll try to include pictures, if I can figure out how to do it. Thanks [IMG] [/IMG]

Hard to tell anything from that picture. How about a few more, including a full side view of each side.

My guess is a Llama with the markings wiped from the slide. Almost looks like one of the Loooong versions.

Yup. It's a 9mm Largo. Llama, worth around $200 in like new condition and much less when screwed with. I had one for a short time, kinda cool in it's own way.

Say, thanks guys, I figured it had to be something like that.
It runs pretty good with .38 Super ammo, is that good or bad for it?

Just went to the 9mmlargo site, compared the gun with the pictures there, it is definitely a Llama Extra, it has the extra 1/8" protrusion of the barrel, nine shot magazine, and the Gabilondo y Cia trademark is exactly what I have, in the exact same position.
Really appreciate all the help.

IIRC you should only use 9mm Largo in it. I think they did some in 38 Super but I would make certain it was a 38 Super bbl before I would take the chance. Could be a very dangerous situation.

OK, took it to my gunsmitty, he gonna make a cast of the chamber and try to figure out if it is a .38 Super or a 9mm Largo. He says the differences in size are very small, but the most important thing would be that the .38 Super runs at a lot higher pressure than the 9MM Largo.
