anyone have their free floating handguard installed? does it improve accuracy?

I have a' first gen' gun, and it works great. Ed made some small improvements on the later versions to speed up the process of building the gun.

Trigger job with overtravel set screws is pure sex. Best trigger on a FAL ever.

Shoots .5-6 MOA if I do do my job!

Drawbacks- front end is really heavy with a Shilen or other heavy SS barrel. Not something a normal size person will want to hump all day.

Everyone will bug the hell out of you when you outshoot their M1A.

thanks for that. how does the handguard attach? to the receiver or barrel? or does he use some kind of barrel nut like Savage rifles?

The new heavy barrel does not have a shoulder to fit up against the receiver as the originals do.

The threads on the barrel are extended towards the muzzle. The barrel is screwed into the receiver to get the headspace close, and to mark the position where the extractor relief will be cut.

The barrel 'nut' is large piece of aluminum that secures the barrel to the receiver, and also serves as the handguard mount. You can call the 'nut' a receiver extension if you like. Large, solid and secure.

Ed has spent a lot of time figuring all this out, and should be commended for his work.

You will be happy with any project Ed does for you.

Another vote for Ed - he did a rifle for me and I was very pleased.

Are their pictures around of one of these with the hand guard off of it? I'd really like to see what he's doing. Ed does have a heavy rep here, and this is a tough room.
