Can Rem. Sportsman model shotguns accept 870/1100 magazine extensions?
Just a question on the budget/economy versions of Remingtons:
Are the 870/1100/1187 magazine tube threads the same as those on the Sportsman (I think the slide action was the 11, and the autoloader was the 11-48) line of Remingtons? I had spotted an 11 and a 11-48 for pretty low prices ($150-175) in used condition and have considered them as possible budget home defense shotguns (the 11-48 seems a good possibility since it's price is so low for an autoloader) if I could add a Choate or Wilson magazine extension tube. |

I believe the only difference in the Sportsman model is the difference in the wood (birch vs walnut) and the quality of the blueing.
I know the stocks and barrels will interchange without any problems, it bet everything will too. It's the same receiver. |

If you're taking about the original "Sportsman" models, like the Model 11 Sportsman (looks like the Browning A5 auto), the Sportsman had a shorter mag tube which would only accept 2 rounds, making it a 3 round shooter. The forearm is also shorter and won't interchange with the standard Model 11.
I'm not sure of the changes for the Sportsman 48, never owned one. Later on Remington used the "Sportsman" moniker on the birch stocked 870's before the Express came out in the later '80's. As for mag tube interchange, I very much doubt it will work with the Model 11's, (might try the Browning mag tubes), maybe someone will have an 11-48 or 11-58 to try it? |

My friend down the road says the newer Remington mag extensions will fit the 11s, but I have not tried it yet.
He is the one that schooled me up on 11s when I bought mine a while back, seeing how I'm not really a shotgun guy. I'm waiting to actually see it before I buy an extender, just in case |

I have a Sportsman 12 that takes mag tube extenders made for the 870 just fine.

I had an 11-48 in 12 that had a Choate extension, and it worked fine. It's a recoil actuated shotgun, so don't put a mag/barrel clamp on it. The stock doesn't interchange, and the recoil was stout on mine.
