They SHOULD cost 650.00, but they DO cost 2000.00-2500.00.

Semi auto hk91 would be $2-$3,000 depending on how its dressed. Now if you mean a 91 converted to a G-3 with a flemming sear I would think 17,000- $20,000

As a newbie to the whole G3 world, is there a thread somewhere that discusses the differences between the various designations?

Is a PTR-91 the same as an HK-91 the same as a G3?

No.

PTR is an American knock of using some surplus and some new US parts ( think M1A vs USGI M14).

HK91 is Semi auto version of the military G3.

PTR US receivers are made on machinery purchased from FMP Portugal who was an HK licensee. The receivers are good. The complete rifles have many up and some down reviews. As they ran out of surplus parts (stocks, buffers and such) the US made replacements have been a compromise of the original design and lack curb appeal (to me). I have to say the PTR compliance trigger parts are wonderful. The US barrels they make are not to the standard of the HK ones. ( PTR lovers will explain this is somehow better).

Before the election, I bought a unfired HK91 with bipod, bayonet, and 25 magazines (20 used, 4 still in wrapper) for $2500.

I remember my dad buying the same weapon (sans mags) for about $400 back in the early 1980s.
