Am I wrong for really, REALLY wanting one of these?

.22 MP44

I'm guessing that this won't be making it here to the US.

How about one of these...

...I've actually fired an original MP44. As you might imagine, quite a similar experience to firing an AK.

IO has an ad in Shotgun News where they are taking orders for the MP-44 clone. I forget the price, . . . . . more than I could afford anyway.

MP44

Bro, if you can afford it, and still feed the kids, go for it!
I got an H&K .22 LR conversion kit, here on the dresser, for a FAL; came, in fact, from a guy on this board; I sweated mothballs, until it arrived, over the price, and the later realization that the mags (4) were 20 rounder's, coming in from Canada, before our 'ban' expired!
But, a neat toy, and paid for.
I like 'sub caliber' conversions, particularly into .22 LR, and shoot several, including three, on a .45 ACP platform (M1911).
Life is too short to endure it without enough toys!

.22 Mp44

If that is the right one, I think it was a .22 Mp44 for 550.00 at the gun show yesterday If I only had the cash.
