gas tube nut

yesterday I took my barrel off my inch fal to re time it.
That barrel was a tight SOB!!! so I cleaned the threads, installed the barrel and got it in time.I was putting it all back together, then I went to install the gas tube nut--it would not screw in. After observing the receiver, I came to find out that the action wrench must've misshapened the hole where the gas tube nut goes. So my question is---Does anyone know what the thread size of the gas tube nut is so I can get me a tap-- because it looks like I may need to re-tap it. I could relly use some help from you guys on this subject. Thank you.

I think Inch is same as metric, if so it's 9/16x24.

I got mine from these guys for about $10 but they have a $25 minimum. I also ordered a 1x16 tap at the same time. Look in special taps over 17/32" section.

Is it possible for a man using a receiver wrench to put enough torque on a receiver to bend the top of the receiver? This has run through my mind several times when I have seen pictures of guys putting barrels on using a four foot cheater, but this is the first I have heard of this happening. I'm pretty new at this, has anyone else heard of this happening?

The recent consonance for seating the barrel seemed to be around 150-160 Lbs max...

First, what kind of "action wrench" did you use?

Second, my (now out-of-print) Casey Elliot receiver wrench doesn't even touch the gas tube nut area, there's clearance all around it. Don't know about your design.

Third, if you applied enough torque to distort the gas nut threads, I've got to wonder idly what else you managed to tweak.
