AK rivet press?

Is a 12 ton press enough(or more than enough)to rivet AK's?

Plenty My el-cheepo from Harbor Freight handles romy barrel pins without trouble. Stabilizing the work and the pins you are pushing with is the critical thing. I've done AMD's, 74's and my friends did their romys on my 12 ton. It'll git-r-done!

The 12T works OK for pressing out the barrel pin (but the 20T has been easier for me )
Remember that using the press to rivet the rear trunnion is easy, but if you plan to rivet the front trunion with the press, you will need a special jig to reach inside. This is why many people use the modified bolt cutters to rivet the front trunnion.

Enjoy your build

or, an $8.99 (on sale) pair of bolt cutters from harbor freight. works just as well and takes up much less space in the garage.

seriously, I looked at the press idea and backed away. finished my third kit, may or may not do two more, haven't needed one at all.

Yeah I'm not looking at the press just for AK builds.I work on my own vehicles and other stuff so it won't go to waste.

At least with the press you can also bend your own flats into receivers. With the absence of receivers for FAL's and 'maybe' for the AK's in the future it may be a consideration.

That is one thing I give the AK is you can virtually build everything without a mill or a lathe. All you got to have is the kit.
