Cool vid
In my aeronautics class we had a speaker come in from Lockheed martin. He has done wind tunnel/aerodynamic/acoustic testing and was/is working on avionics integration on the F-22. He had some interesting things to talk about including the new JSF-35 which will have a STOVL version to replace the aging harrier platform. You can see a clip of it in the grouchy vid, "Die Terrorists Die", at around 3:06.

He also showed some video clips on why it is necessary to test all aspect of the aircraft including weapon stores when they release from the aircraft. Several clips of bombs and missiles “dropping” going up and cutting through wings and h-stabs. I can’t imagine what a pilot is thinking when a 500lb bomb is released and instead of dropping it veers into the side of the aircraft.

He/she would be in tight pucker mode & saying "Awww Sh*t"...............over & over again until he/she said "Eject, Eject, Eject" & pulled the ring!!!!

Luckily the bomb only ripped a hole in the fuselage and then passed by with no explosion. I agree with you though I would’ve punched out, but I guess that’s why I’m not a pilot.

Interestingly enough none of the aircraft seemed to lose control with sever damage to the wings and/or h-stab. Most continued on in level flight……of course the video clips only showed several seconds after the drop so who knows what occurred 15-30 seconds later.
