PTR91 + Wood stock
I put a wood butt stock on my PTR91 (NIW from Dan's, very nice).
It is much easier to charge now than with the original US PTR stock. Is the spring on the wood stock too weak and can I shoot the rifle without worries?

Any one???
Maybe I wasn't clear. Because the rifle is much easier to cock now, I'm worried that the recoil spring isn't strong enough. I don't need a bolt smacking the back of the stock or worse. The stock looks new and there is no wear on the spring.

Shoot it and see what happens. Will it strip a round out of the mag? If yes, then the spring is good.

I would be tempted to do it since I have an exceptional wood set here. There is the problem of parts count though. I don't know if I could come up with enough extra US parts to replace the US handguard and stock it would replace.

By my count, the PTR has one extra US part. I can't get the handguard over the fat PTR barrel so that is not a concern for now. I'm not sure how I will tackle that problem but it will probably involve a Dremel.
![]() I noticed that JLD now has a US hammer and sear. I may have to get them to proceed any farther with the wood installation. Stranger, I haven't tried to load it yet. I will bring the PTR stock to the range with me in case the wood stock doesn't work.

I put a wooden set up on mine too. If your concerned about the recoil spring just swap out the end cap with the PTR one. Mine is an older model that had no muzzel attachment. So it came with 16 of the 20 listed parts. 9 foreign. I added a US brake and a mag floorplate. I also was able to get the forearm on with a little careful pressure, but you may want to use a dremel like you stated. I would'nt want to suggest something that may cause any damage.Good luck.
