OT: Any experience with Para-Ord. P-13?
Somebody wants to trade a Para-Ordance P13 to me.
It has an alloy frame, and hogue grips, made in Canada circa 1995, bunch of hi-caps and ten rounder. Anybody have anything to say one way or the other? TIA

Got one with the steel frame. Works well for me, although some persons report feeding problems with hollowpoints - problems that are usually fixed by replacing the mag springs with some from Wolfe.
Can you do a reliability check on the gun before doing the deal? |

I have one. Not real impressed. It was a gift from my wife, otherwise I would sell it.

I'm fairly confortable working with 1911's. An aqaintence had an AD inside a vehicle with one that was brand new (something with the safety not engauging or something to that effect). The aluminum frame concerns me, but that' nothing new. The trade would be for a Glock. I tried to like the Grock, but it just didn't happen.

I have the P14-45, steel frame, and absolutely love it. Then again, the 1911A1 my issued sidearm for some time in the Army.
I have never cared for the Glock. A buddy of mine had one but, I was never really impressed much except for the "combat trigger safety". This sounds like a good trade. I would consider it, since you are comfortable working with a 1911 mechanism. The Paraordnance pistols are easily modified and tuned to fit one's individual tastes. The quality of the materials used is excellant so, I would not let the alloy frame hold me back. Just keep it properly lubed. JMHO...FWIW

Para Ord factory mag springs are junk. They can cause feeding problems. Get some good after market springs for it.

Para Ordnance 1911s are rather poor quality, in my opinion. Yes, I know the gunwriter whores working for magazines that have multiple full-page adds for P-Ord have nothing but wonderful things to say,. but the number of P-Ord guns sent to me for repair far exceeds all other major brands combined.
The alloy frames are the worst. I have personally sent three back to para ordnance for replacement with steel frames due to cracking, and that was a fight getting htem to honor their warranty. And I even had to ship to another dealer who could handle the canada laws. Stupid - not even having a US ability to repair/replace. Cracks on the hammer pin hole from the piece-of shit ally being so fraginle the hammer spring splits it - also cracks at the slide stop. But then, thats just my opinion, and worth exactly what you paid for it.

Mine throws spent shell casings against my forehead just like almost every other 1911-pattern pistol I ever fired. I had some feeding problems too until I WECSOG'd the ejector.

And, the P12/P13 grip safety doesn't fit my Llama Mini-max II/Firestorm Mini Compact.
What the hell is wrong with those Para-Ord people? Seriously, though, I think that there are better buys than the Para-Ord P12/P13 series guns. And, for anyone thinking of replacing the Llama/Firestorm grip safety (which doesn't have the extended tab) with a Para-Ord P12/P13 one (which does have the extended tab), it really won't fit. I didn't really think that it would, but, for the price that Brownell's charges for it, I did have to try... Bummer... |
