I own a savage 12FV in .308. Its the 26" barrel version of the gun your talking about. It comes with the standard Savage Synthetic stock instead of the choate. This is the most accurate gun I've ever shot, With a decent scope I shoot around 1" 5-shot groups at 100yds, 20 shots in 3" just for fun... The accutrigger is incredible, break clean and light with the minimum of creep or over travel. I have mine adjusted to the lightest setting (savage claims around 1.5 lbs) but I just place my finger on the trigger and think about pulling to fire
I'll probably upgrade the stock to a Bell&Carlson heavy barrel stock soon, I know people shooting 1/2" at 100yds routinly with the B&C stock and an unmodified Barreled Action. I know alot of guys dog the savages but for the money its the most accurate out of the box rifle I've ever seen. Sure the remingtons are prettier, but I kinda like the huge barrel-nut holding the thing together, looks kinda industrial...HTH -Chris |

I don't, but a guy at my shooting club does and it will shoot 1/2" 100 yard five shot groups with any decent ammo all day. This has got to be the sleeper best buy of the century.

I just recently bought the 12 FV, as posted above. It just has a longer barrel. Dead on accurate, the accutrigger is a great thing.
I'm not interested in changing the stock. I like mine just the way it is. I did put a nice Leupold Var XIII on it. Deadly on coyotes.

Thanks-Everyone for the replies.....
I have only heard very positive things about these Guns.... I purchased the Savage Arms....10FP-LE2A .308---26hbar... choate adjustable stock....yesterday....the ffl said it should be here today....as it only had to come from a warehouse in Ohio..... I heard the LEOs are buying them so thats a good sign..... Im stoked....the ffl said UPS drops stuff off around 3:00pm... A guy on another gun web site was telling me about breaking in a new barrel on these guns....it was a long process of shoot five rounds then clean barrel...then repeat...until you have shot 80rds....I have never broke in a barrel like this... I always...Just bought it and shot it.... Thanks again for the replies.....Nordland... Last edited by nordland; March 16, 2004 at 12:19. |

Congratz on the purchase.
I just checked the website and your right the LE2 version does have the 26" barrel.. If you haven't handled a heavy barrel 308 boltgun yet you're in for a suprise. With decent optics mounted these things are HEAVY!!! I think mine tips the scales around 15lbs loaded. Just the LE2 rifle alone without optics is 11.25Lbs. If you thought building an FAL was fun wait till you try finding ammo your gun likes. Mine shoots best with handloads. 155 Lapua Silver Scenars over 44gr Varget in winchester cases with Remington BR primers. Good luck and let us know how she shoots... -Chris |
