Glock 21 or 21 SF - what are the differences ?

Hey guys,

I am considering of buying either a Glock 21 Gen4 or 21SF next year.

I currently own a Glock 17 Gen4.

So, what are the differences?

Are there also any Glock 21SF Gen 4 to be seen in the near future ?

Thanks,

mb60

How big are your hands, whats your intended purpose?

I wear a large size in gloves, but don't consider my hands large at all. That said, I've owned/carried a couple G21's, and currently own/carry 2 Gen3 G21 SF's. Both frame sizes are a handful, period. The SF is only slightly smaller. Get your mitts on both to test fit before you buy. Been carrying G21's since the day they came out.

I wear size 2XL to 3XL gloves, so I might be better off with a regular Gen4.

Does the 21 Gen4 retain the backstrap feature like my 17 Gen4 ?

The SF signifies “short frame,” meaning that the distance between the trigger and blackstrap is shorter than the standard Gen3 frame. I believe the SF uses proprietary magazines due to the smaller grip. Yes, all Gen4s have the backstraps so you’d be good to go on a Gen4 21 if you like your Gen4 17.

I notice little difference between the SF and regular Glock 21. The later 21 SF mags work in the regular 21, but earlier regular 21 mags may not work in SF versions. I have big hands and have owned both. For my personal tastes I like the SF for trigger placement/feel on my trigger finger. JMHO. To each their own.

No, the SF uses the same magazines as the standard. Yes, the Gen 4 has the interchangeable backstraps. The only Glock I ever owned that didn't shoot well was a G21SF. Probably dumb coincidence, but it is what it is.

I wear a medium size glove and have no problem shooting my Gen 2.5 G30 or Gen4 G41 and love them both. If I were to buy another today it would definitely be a Gen 4.

^^^^^ Exactly this. Both grips 21/21SF are noticeably bigger than a G17...
