When I shot my G.L. Imbel / STG/58 using Port BF.79/67 my gas setting started out on 5, after she warmed up,20 rounds, it wouldnt cycle till I moved it down to 3, it ran fine after that, 80 rounds no misfires, no jams, what could cause this change, the Stg kit looked new, could the chamber swell enough to cause this?

I looked at some threads on this type of problem and I might have figured it out, I may not have the gas regulator screwed all the way on, so it might have been open to far. When I screw it all the way to the block it stops just before the no. 1, between 1 and 2, so I may have thought that it should start one turn out, from what I read , it should be turned tight against the block to start with, the first time I shot it it worked fine on 5, took it home and stripped it competely and probaly didnt screw it back tight, cause it wont quite go all the way to 1, so I probaly turned it out 1 turn and put it back on 5. can you figure out what im trying hard to say.

Sounds like you figgered it out on your own.
Do you have the rectangular spring on there that causes it to click when you adjust it? Keeps it from turning on by itself.

Yeah its in there, I posts another thread about a welded muzzle brake, I just wonder if that weld ring has anything to do with it, the first time out it was pinned, but it came loose,so I had it welded, sorry for the ywo posts, but I get all excited when this crap happens.

Thanks Mosin Guy, Im sure the gas plug was on the A, looked at that thread and Im right on top of that assembly procedure, checked the gas piston, plug, and looked everthing over with a magnfying glass, and didnt see anything out of wack, the funny part is that the first time out, pre welded muzzle brake ,it worked fine on 5 gas setting, using nato 308 marked HP .308 7.62.

It was the gas regulator, I didnt screw it all the way to the gas block when I cleaned it last time, alls fine now, another 80 rounds, no malfunctions on no. 5, with port. 79/67, thanks, now if I can figure out how to move the rear sight to the left a tad, Ill be set, seems to be froze.
