Barrel length/ Gas assembly

Ya spelling whatever........ anyway my question is what is the shortest you can cut a Fal barrel and have it threaded without HAVING to move the Gas Block? Im thinking about maybe building a kit to be a carbine but am looking at choices. Also how hard is it to move the gas port back? What is entitled? Im debating building one with the barrel cut as short to the gas block w/threads as possible compared to one with the gas block moved back. thanks a bunch -myers

Least expensive alternative is 16 1/4" standard gas system. That may require some tuning(balancing) to achieve proper function. Anything under 16" will require federal paperwork and approval. The short gas systems while cooler looking and maybe slightly lighter won't really offer you anything extra except expense.
