TAPCO Imbel kit finish??

I received two Imbel kits from TAPCO, and was pleased with what I got. One kit was almost new, the other used but in good shape.

Now the question: what kind of paint-on type finish was put on these? It seems to scratch very easily, and the scratches show up too well. I would like to remove it to see if the finish underneath is serviceable without beadblasting.

you are SOL . That kit needs to be blasted. There is bare metal under the paint. You need to blast it to make it smooth again then paint it.

I would put an elcheepo park job on it then paint it.
I have used that British Gun Paint DSA sells with great results.

One of my Imbels I did the whole refinish job the othe rone I didnt do anything to it as far as finishes go.
