View Full Version : Not an FAL but ... Ballester Finish question.

It's not an FAL but they have a C&R board here so I'm hoping I'm allowed to ask:
I have a Ballester Molina that has some light pitting on the exterior. The bluing is almost all worn off. I've heard the only way to smooth that out is to 'bead blast' or something like that. Is that the only option?
I was thinking of putting an Aluma-hyde II finish on it. Will that look pitted too if painted over the current pitting or will it cover up the pitting and dry smooth/new looking?

I was hoping there was a Dremel attachment I could 'sand' down the metal with or something simple like that.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Sandpaper removes pitting.

I just refinished my Ballester with the Aluma-Hyde II. It looks funny and I waited 3-4 days between coats and steel wooled in between.

I finally took it to the range after 3 weeks and after a couple of mags full, it still smells like fresh spray paint.
