View Full Version : Return Spring failures?
June 23, 2002, 13:20
Has anyone ever heard of or experienced a failure or breakage of the return springs? I am wondering if I should stock a spare for my inch gun. The springs I have now are in quite good shape, so no immediate need.

The return springs usually get old and collapse, not fail.
Here's some tips:
- disassemble and clean the return springs and tube and lube VERY lightly.
- Inspect the springs for kinks, nicks, or other visible damage.
- Ensure the tube is free of anything that might damage a coil. If necessary, a patch of 3m-on-a-stick in a drill motor will smooth the tube nicely. You also have just removed most of the finish, so light lube is good.
- Reassemble using a VERY light grease (tetra, yadayada) on the coils, spread all over them.

I maintain the springs and tube in the manner you describe already..........but I think I'll pick up a spare set to be on the safe side.
P.S. I would just like to take moment and thank you for the all the friendly and patient advice you dispense with on this forum....I dont mean to embarrass you but I do notice and I'm sure alot of others do as well.
