There is a Buttstock Tool Compartment in the back of the G1.

Does anyone know what officially is suppose to go in there? Is it some type of cleaning kit or something (like an FN49 or SKS etc?)

Only thing I find in all the books is that say "It is Obsolete". Ok, I get that Mr. Experts...but certainly SOMETHING went in there before it was Obsolete! Geez!

I believe it was for an oil bottle ( not much room for anything else ) but I've never to my knowledge ever sees exactly what type of bottle.

I'm not sure that anything was carried in that space. It would seem that someone here would have found the contents by now, maybe in the BGS kits?

German troops were issued a cleaning kit, this one for the G1, G3, MG1 and MG 3. I can see no reason to carry another Oil Bottle in the Stock.

The Aussies had a pull string and a tube of grease.. The Germans did not officially use the buttstock trap door for anything.

That looks like what be the only thing to go in there since the G1 Kit also came with the Tobacco Tin. Just as suggested, looks like the FN49 kit went right in there...

Interesting...
