Whatever size your build requires, I put together an Imbel kit on a Century receiver that took a .250 LS. It shoots just fine.

I had a Locking shoulder that was a bit oversize and learned in GP's FAL book that a fellow can file these down a bit...but to be careful.

And as you can imagine, I was worried that it wasn't perfect, so a little here an little there and an on..until it was way under what I required (had to buy a new one in spite of myself) but I finally was able to get it damn-straight level using my Starrett Gauge.

End result is a Perfectly level & Mic'd .243 Locking Shoulder...

My guess is that it is now, way too small to use?

The simple answer: The one that is correctly sized for your build.

Anything down to .250, I'm fine with. With the defective, out of spec, DSA receivers needing .249 for even a .308 (tighter) headspace, I'm a little leary. But they haven't blown up yet.

Smallest factory shoulder I've found was a .253, and that was 8 out of 1,274. I actually think they were .254s and just on the (-) tolerance, as there were 29 x .254s out of the 1,274 I pounded out of IMBEL receiver sections.
