Picked this up for $900. Can't find much info on it. It's been shot very little. What do you guys think?? From what I can tell it's a ban era LMT reciever rifle from around when they moved to Lake Barrington

Man that is pretty sweet! I would say a great deal at 900.

Definitely DO NOT forget the earplugs with that one.

Not sure about that... Looks like it has DSA's copy of the Belgian long FH which actually works quite well at flash reduction. And yes... that's a great deal on a rifal. :whiskey:

From here it doesn't look like the slots in the FH go all the way through.

They don't. It's cosmetic (looks like a FH) and that's what lead me to believe it's a ban era gun

You are asking what I think? O-tay thanks. I think you STOLE IT! We NEVER have decent FALS around here for that price. Now you need plenty ammo to feed it.

Same here. I'm guessing my new rifle is at least 10 years old (I think this ad was around '07-'08)

DS20000 range receivers are pre 2004....probably closer to 2000-01. YMMV

My other FAL is a Grayslake marked receiver and I contacted DSA about it and they said it was made in 2008. I think they don't even have a clue

Here's the Email I received regarding the above rifle

Good Morning Steve,

The office just reached back to me regarding the serial number DS11159. The rifle was sold as a complete SA58 FAL rifle with a 21" barrel. It has the standard handguard, grip and stock. It was manufactured and sold in March 2008 to a gun shop in the Northwest Suburbs of the Chicago area. I hope this helps you.

Thank you,

DS11000 was probably built around 1997-1998. That doesn't mean that it was sold......maybe it hung around until 08' when they sold it. Years ago DSA cleared out a good bit of stuff....liquidated older trade show inventory etc....

I bought a Grayslake from DSA 6-7 years ago and sent it back because the serial # was very faint.

I have the same short gas front end with and using a Hampton lower. Mine needs the A2 sight because it shoots low. Yes it's an earful. I really think the amount of unburned powder negates the FH on these 13" barrels.

Everybody needs 1 short gas rifle.

According to the rep it was actually made in 2008. He might be wrong but he said (on the phone) that he needed to look at the hard copy records because the info they have on the computer doesn't go back far enough

The kit gun itself may or may not have been "assembled" in 2008.....but that receiver dates to the 1990's. If the rep or anyone else at DSA says otherwise they are wrong.

Is that a crack behind the locking shoulder on the Grayslake? Or some kind of staking???????...Or?

I'm guessing they are wrong, since the FH is "permanently" attached which would indicate it was made between 1994-2004 (ban era). The kit is all STG 58 parts (including Steyr barrel). Who knows really, but considering they have all of the Steyr tooling I'm pretty sure the original parts kits were used up way before 2008

2008 or so receivers were in the low 30k range. My 1st came from Court so no telling how long he had it. DSA is full of it as far as to the pedigree of the receiver is 2008.

Probably some rejects they bought and dragged out of storage

My thoughts too. The light serial Grayslake was so bad it required a wipe with oil to read the #.

As for the OP Grayslake.....There is likely a milled out serial under that lock lever arm. That screams 90's gun.

It's a 90's gun built with NOS Steyr/FN parts. DSA doesn't know what they are talking about. I've had a couple of those rifles. All were exactly the same. You are a handful of parts away from an NOS StG-58.

Which is amazing considering I traded a Century Tantal for it about 2 months ago. What's the value on this? Around $1600? Not like I'm going to sell but like knowing what a crazy good trade I did lol

I did notice it was as light as (or very close to) an AR. Seemed just as handy too. It's going to be in jail for a few weeks until I can pay it off, but as soon as I do it's going to the range. If it's anywhere as good as my full size I'll be very happy

So I'm psyched and get 2 loaded mags (one DSA, one Austrian surplus, put the safety on, and load it up. First one feeds slowly but chambers, I eject and let it ride and it gets hung up. I pull back and release, gets hung up but moves a little more. This repeats through 40 hand racks every 4-5 rounds. Seems to be getting caught at the right feed ramp.

Is the feed ramp not finish fully? Does it just need a break in period?

steveTA1983
November 02, 2017, 23:21
Found the culprit

It's only the right side that it's happening. This is what happens when you insert the mag without BCG or top cover. I'm thinking out of spec bolt catch?

Profiling the bolt catch helped a lot, but it's still doing it on and off. Think I should just take it to DSA? Maybe the feed ramp on the right side isn't cut correctly

Are you "riding" the bolt home?.

Lock the bolt the rear, insert magazine, then release from lever, from both sides of magazine..... any issues?

Yes, still doesn't feed and I wasn't riding the bolt. I'm on my way to DS Arms now to drop it off
