Hi fal world !! I've just began to explore the whole diverse world of those awesome Brazilian Imbel fals that most of us love and respect so much!! Really fascinating story Imbels are!!! I'm just beginning to appreciate their quality and workmanship after ignoring them for 30 yrs while focusing on Belgium made FNs!!

I'm just wondering where all the 0riginal Sar 48s are for sale these crazy days??? I used to see them a lot for sale in the 80s and 90s back in the day ,and now almost never see them anymore?? I know they're around and surface occasionally??!

Anyone out there got any answers or any Sar 48s they want to part with?! I'm seeking ex cond or new in para, bush and standard?! If any of you kind folks have leads on any please send them my way?! tryatsu@yahoo.com

Many Thanks ---fal guy nc

I think we are all holding onto them in the hope that the prices will skyrocket like the Belgiums.. ;)

I remember seeing quite a few on gunbroker over the summer. Keep checking gunbroker and armslist. If you can't find one you can always do an Imbel kit on Imbel upper built by Arizona Response. That's what I ended up doing because I didn't like the Springfield logo stamp and wanted original Imbel markings on the upper.

Possibly, but I hit every Tulsa Wanenmacher, and they are hit and miss there, too. Armslist (sorry to say) is a good place, as is gunbroker. See 4800s come up more often. There's a nice 4800 on our OK armslist now at a dealer who will ship. The 48s come up much less often - especially the Bush model you're looking for in the marketplace.

You need to keep your eyes open, they show up in the market place here rarely, I missed a couple before I became a member that friends of mine would tell me about. I kept an eye out on GunBroker and managed to pick up a fairly decent standard SAR 48 a few weeks ago. You will need to be prepared to pay to play though, they donít come cheap.

If you really want one, post a "want to buy" ad in the marketplace here, and have the cash in hand when you get responses that fit your criteria.

I believe the standard Sar-48's run a little less than the shorter barrel bush guns and the para's are even rarer and more costly yet. Yes your right you don't see them like you used too.
Good luck on your hunt.

Regretting firing mine. Bought only because of the Springfield branding and import. Soon as saw the 4800's on dealer shelf the 48's were put back before round count exceeded a total of 100 shots. My dealer was peeved when ordered a boat load of 48's before the official ban date but due to delays in shipping arrived in 4800 trim. They sat with zero interest and was able to pick up some 308 and 5.56 rifles at his cost to clear from inventory, do the 922r conversion to get rid of butt hole stock and they are sometimes shot but shot my DSA and Conan parts rifles most to keep round count lower on the 4800's along with the original parts in original boxes in case they become more valuable in butt hole trim some day.

As a question, is a butt hole 4800 Cali legal with ten round magazines? Could see them gain some popularity in states that enact strict rules on pistol grips and flash hiders. Made huge mistake selling my two nice original import rifles and a pair or 48's when first got sick trying to simplify life for wife but recovered and how found this place, trying to rebuild collection but prices had run beyond my desire to spend so much to replace. I did not even appreciate the FAL till recently. Was a full bore 'Merican M1a, Garrand and SP1 Colt AR guy. In the time from selling my Type II Bowning 50.00 and Type III Steyr till recovered from multiple health issues, gained a true appreciation for the FAL prices had adjusted to point unless I trip across a private sale that is dirt cheap won't ever have another.

Funny thing is both the Type II and III were bought in parking lot of gun shows after owners who were strapped for cash walked them through our local show and didn't get a single offer. Were told people around here didn't buy those things. Only reason I still go to an occasional show still is hope to trip across someone walking around the place with one. Last four local gun shows have visited only saw one total mix master parts gun period. It's almost like I live in the only little corner of the planet with no real appreciation for FAL's. LGS says entire time in business only FAL's to come through their shop were transfers I have purchased online except for two special order DSA rifles.

I found this Mint PARA on GB back in March of this year, just have to be patient.

That's the way it came from Imbel, so I'm told by the original owner. Maybe it was an option.

I've got a full auto SAR-48 Izzy HB that I toyed with the idea of selling. But each time I think about selling one of my NFA items, I keep deciding that I like 'em all too much to let them go. But who knows, Christmas is right around the corner...

It'll have a little tab you can slide to the side and flip it open to disconnect it. Where as the regular one you had to unscrew the screw and take apart the whole bipod somewhat.

I have a late Gun South FN 50:00 NIB and giggle at the lack of attention to finish and overall tool marks on it compared to a early DSA . SA's are Imbel . Buy a Imbel gear logo and a decent kit and you are done and you wont feel dirty for firing a mint Springfield .

Exactly. I have a heavy barrel and standard Springfield and I'll take them out once in a while and ponder shooting them, put them away again and go shooting the Imbel or STG58 or the "FauxDesian"

Been tempted to whittle down the collection to those that I would actually SHOOT... but only tempted.

Last year i was working in the Midland TX area when i found a mint 4800 with Brit suit scope and mount. Guy had it marked $1299.
I waited till a week before the election and went back to see it again. As i walked up the counter with it, the old gieser says "all used guns 15% off today". I thought wow. Meant to be.
Great shooter.

They are around. With all the standardization around the AR and AK these days, designs like FAL and G3 are only selling to old guys like us. So with a smaller market group, they sit around longer and end up selling for less.
There are a small group of guys buying new, for those guys there is DSA and PTR. Even so, those companies only make 4k rifles a year. I am tickled that you can get brand new ones here in America. But with current trends, i wonder how long those designs can keep those companies afloat.

Iíve got a de-pinned/de-sporterized SAR 4800 with muzzle device for bayonet, CASV-FAL VLTOR handguard, SAW handgrip, polymer buttstock, picatinny rail dust cover (still have original also), two bayonets, Moses mags and metal mags, along with a few other accessories. Itís only had 20 rounds through it, by me, then cleaned.

Iíve been toying with the idea of selling it for a while now. Iíll post a pic later when I get home to see if you would be interested. I need to figure out how much it would take for me to let go of it though... as I know I wont be able to replace it easily. :D Iíve been out of the loop a few years and need to get back up to speed on prices etc...

My 4800 is very smooth. And the trigger is better than i would think it would be. Over all, i think SAI did very well with their FALs. Never really cared for their M1A. What a nice rifle!

Okay real world:

in a world where mixmaster guns on US receivers fetch over a grand SAR 48s bring more. Figure easy $1500 range on up.
thing is we have a damn nice Belgian 50.00 imported by GSA years ago one could have for around $2400
Similar SAR would be $1800+

The Belgian will always build in value, the SAR much slower
shit people want over 2K for DSA builds now
I think it's all a bit stupid

One on GB right now. I'm not affiliated with it in any way, just thought I'd point it out. Seems cheap enough but I'm not educated on them.

I may do just that. She is a sweet shooter, easy 2moa @ 100yds and flawless after 100 rounds of NATO Ball. Previous owner never shot the Gun.
