Newbie question, let the beatings begin.

Local shop has an FAL with a Rosario upper.

F.M.A.P. "DM" Rosario
Industria Argentina
FSL cal 7.62x51mm (L.S.R. .308WIN)

The lower, bolt, and, bolt carrier are non matching numbers.

Flash suppressor is a little loose.........

7 mags included.

$950.00

I don't have, go/no go gauges, and neither do they.......
Don't know how to post pics here yet....

But, I do have $950.00.

Pix would help immensely, but the Argentine receiver alone is probably worth $550+.
7 milsurp mags are worth another Benjy so you are up to $650 plus already
Even a mis-matched kit in decent condition will bring more than the leftover $300 and change.
Yeah, I would likely grab it for that price.

YMMV

Hopefully Argy kit. Upper is worth more than 550. Go for it.

L1A1 parts kit on an Argy receiver. It is not a factory gun. I'm beting there is "SAC Lattca" inside the mag well. So it's a post 89 Import. But price is still pretty good.

^^^YUP^^^

I have a similar "mixmaster" SLR on Argy that is actually a great shooter if that is your goal. Not correct, but..... :)

If you are thinking of flipping it, the best way would be parting it out yourself for the maximum pesos.

If you don't have the tools to part it out, you could also sell it in the MP here like it is and someone else will likely do so, still leaving a few pesos of profit in your pocket.

Explain to the dealer it is a mixmaster and make him a reasonable offer, he might take less. I don't see how you can go wrong even at the asking price.

Again, YMMV.

Thanks guys!!!

So, a decent entry level package, at a decent price, that will eventually make me want a better FAL.

How about the loose suppressor?
Has a little side to side wiggle to it.
An accuracy concern, I would think.
Safety concern?
Easy fix?

Recommend buying it.

Link below contains Argy thread to try and match, upper receiver to other parts. May want to check serial number against the list.

The flash hider should be held in place by a donut washer that fits into a slot on the bottom of the flashider, and that washer is pinned in place. You could ask the shop owner could you remove it to inspect the barrel threads and potential fit. If nobody seriously messed with it, perhaps a new flashider washer (not the donut, but a washer that fits inside the flashider) would fix the problem.

I'd be leery of shooting it if there is much play in the flashider. You could always take the flashider off to shoot it until you rectify the problem.

Also, tell the seller that there has been bad blood between the Argies and the Brits in the past, and that he ought to give you a further discount just in case the parts "don't get along well together". ;)

Here's a prospective. The upper is seriously worth about $650 for someone building and Argy. The mags are like invictous says 100 or better. I'd shoot it bide my time and find an Argy kit and sell off the SLR parts. Argy parts are getting hard to find but most all are in excellent condition. Argy para lowers and stocks are around as well

I would think the price is ok viewing what the receiver is worth. I would sure get it if i were looking for a FAL.

The correct FAL Files answer is to buy it and separate the receiver from the parts. Then, buy Argy parts for the receiver and a Brit cut L1A1 receiver for the SLR parts.

Then buy several more FALs.

^^^ Yep, and sell it to me !

The Commonwealth "inch" SLR/L1A1s are much sexier than the standard "metric" FAL :whistling:

Does the serial match anything on the list in the link you were given? It's in PDF form. If it matches someones kit chances are you may work out a deal with whomever has the other parts.
If nothing else the receiver will be most likely worth more to them.
If it was me I'd swap you an NOS Imbel. Hard to beat that.

Mmmm, not sure on the number, as they didnít let me get a pic of the numbers.
I want to say low 100ís.
Iím going back tomorrow.....

Gonna try to get out the door for 1k, after tax and transfer.

So the only thing Argy, is the upper?
Which is metric?

Everything else, is inch pattern?

Then I have to build 2 rifles, before I can buy another one.
So much for getting in cheap.

All of the visible parts appear to be Commonwealth/inch. You can absolutely leave it as is and as long as function, reliability and accuracy are acceptable to you, it's fine. There are plenty of Commonwealth pattern FALs built on receivers originally intended for metric pattern rifles.

$800 is more realistic. Just because that receiver has value doesn't mean you should pay the dealer full retail for it. The gun is a turd IMHO.....YOU will be doing the work swapping and should reap the benefit. Let the dealer part it out and sell you the receiver for $650 and let him eat the kit. YMMV

This is how it sometimes starts, Like what your looking at with that MUTT at the LGS. But if you have the funds, Buy it, Strip the Brit parts off the Argy receiver and either sell the Brit stuff or keep both until you can find the rest of the Argy parts and then find a Brit or Aussie receiver and wind up with two Fals. Some of us call it Fal or SLR FEVER. Kind of like the OLD Frito's Lays potato's chip commercial, BET YOU CAN'T EAT JUST ONE.:biggrin

Buy it and trade the Argy upper for (either straight trade or sell yours and buy . . .) an older LMT made DSA inch upper. Which is currently similar value to the Argy upper (650-700 IMHO).

Or sell the kit and keep the Argy and make a metric rifle. Really depends which way you want to go as far as inch vs metric, or both? Eventually you will give in to having both anyway.

I surrendered to her.

Rosario is on layaway.............

The plan: Shoot it, acquire parts, build out both.

01606 upper, not on the database.

Gave her a good cleaning. Got the cob webs out of the bore, and the rust out of the gas tube, liberally applied CLP to moving parts and let it sit, then a good wipe down and re-lube, and a china marker.

If and when you decide to build an all Argy rifle I have two kits I'd part with. One being relatively close to the serial number on your existing upper if that is of any interest. Both will end up listed here on the Files at some point.
