Hey, all. I have an L1A1 sand cut bolt carrier that has the stamping in the top that is "PP1266" on the top with the Aussie crossed flags and an "87" at the end. Any clue because my aging memory is not finding it.

Buggered if I know, original rifle was supplied to the Army here and then on as aid to somewhere. That is not a generally normal Aussie marking,as you already know, in fact it almost looks British. I have nothing to further and answer...

Ooohhh those .... those were part of the secret Rhodie shipment .... Hey, you have to start the conspiracy theory someplace. I just wanted to get the jump on folks.

What serial number? Also 68 02xxx?

Could be something as simple as a steel batch mark or steel type.

The PP obviously stands for Pew Pew. The carriers have more Pew Pew than normal carriers.

Either that or is a Philippine contract?

6713466 .....also delivered to the Aus Army initially and on "somewhere" from there. The stamping does not look like any other Lithgow marking I have seen on an SLR but it DOES look like it was applied at manufacture (basing it also on the consistent placement on the two examples). I can only speculate it was added from new for reasons unknown. Mark is probably closest with it being something that was a small, but accepted, variation to pattern/specification that needed to be readily identifiable.
