I recently picked up a DSA SA58 lately it has the 21" medium barrel. The only problem is that because it was built 7/2004 it only has the slots at the end of the barrel and no threads for a flash hider or brake. I am thinking of having it threaded 9/16"-24L for the Austrian long flash hider. Maybe also bobbing 3" off the end to make 18". I don't think I want to do a 16". Anyone with any thoughts or comments on this. Thanks

Take it down to the proper 18" length (I think it's not exactly 18")and use a Belgian combo. You'll need to open the port up a tad. Then get a para setup:uhoh:

18" is about the optimum barrel length for powder burn and overall balance and performance.

Buy or trade your DSA barrel for a standard FAL barrel in whatever length you choose.
It might end up costing $0.00 except for re-barreling.

Just a consideration.

I sent mine back to DSA for this job. They did fantastic work and turn around time was under a month including shipping both ways. Customer service response time was very fast and efficient.

If not DSA then I 100% percent recommend Gunplumber at Arizona Response Systems.

16" is a bit short. Mine is quite the flamethrower.

A long time ago, IIRC, the "correct" length of a para barrel is 17 5/8 inches.
