In 2001 I bought 3 M1's from the CMP. All were Springfields, and 2 of them were late production models from the 50's.

The other one was in the 11256xx range and was manufactured in the Jan/Feb 1943 time frame. I did a complete disassembly and inspection, and noticed that most of the parts appear original, including the barrel which is stamped 2-43.

The bolt and op rod (an uncut -9) and a few other parts are from 1945.

The receiver is stamped just above the part number with "R 45". I've been trying to find out if that might mean that this rifle was repaired in 1945 by an armory and that would account for the late war parts. Nothing else on this rifle appears to be from after the War.

Does anyone have an idea what the R 45 stamp might indicate? Any input would be appreciated...:)
