New barrel is all that is required.

Wow if those chamber adapters work that would be pretty cool.

Chamber adapters do not work. Get a new bbl and a spacer block.

Better yet buy a garand in 308. Cmp still has some. Then you'll have two!

Chamber sleeves....Navy tried it before. sleeve would eject with fired case. I have a 7.62 garand . all you need is abarrel and maybe a spacer.

Alternatively, keep it in the original 30-06 and learn how to reload. By using the proper powder, amount, and bullet you can shoot very accurately for a real reasonable price. Been doing it for years.

If the rifle currently shoots well as a 30-06, I would whole-heartedly agree with the above poster.

I have an M1 Garand rebarreled in 7.62x51 and it is awsome. Personal theory s that it is better because the original design was for .276 something something which would have allowed to be a 10 round clip/magazine. Criterion barrels have a good reputation. Pietro Berreta magazine filler blocks are available. There's an aluminum version on eBay with an additional wing

IMO blocks are a waste of money, they serve no good purpose

Preventing the insertion of incorrect ammunition, as well as a visual reminder of same.

That is not a good purpose ?

For 15 bucks ?

Having both a 30-06 and .308 Garand in the household now, I think the block is a good reminder. :)

Does anyone actually know what happens when you insert the longer 30.06 rd in a in a 7.62 Garand?? Absolutly nothing, Bolt wont close, hammer wont fall
Anyone know what happens when you shoot the shorter 7.62 rd in a 30.06 chamber? No devastation,no catastrophe, brass just comes out straight walled

So that's how they make some of those wildcat cartridges! "Ooops! Round in wrong gun. Call it a wildcat"

Jeez....

When things got too hectic at the Armory, John Cantius Garand enjoyed ice skating in his living room...being from Canada and all.
