View Full Version : Muzzle Brake Question

I am putting a new para barrel on my FAL. I got it from Dealer Warehouse and was wondering if I have to remove the parkerizing from the threads at the muzzle end of the barrel before I solder the muzzle brake on? Also, is there anything else I need to do to this brand new barrel before I put it on my receiver?

I use a stainless steel brush on the muzzle threads to knock anything loose and then completely degrease. Likewise on the inside of the brake. Even a plastic bristle AR brush does pretty well.
As to the receiver end, also brush the threads and then use a little lubricant or anti-seize. HTH.

It is always advisable to strip down to bare metal before soldering anything. That said, I've done several muzzle-thingies on FAL's without removing old park. Seems to work OK. None have come loose.
