View Full Version : L2A1 and C2A1 carry handle question

I know that the Canadian C2A1 carry handles are brown and that the Australians obtained much of their parts for their L2A1's from Canada, but did they ever make their own carry handle? Does a proper L2A1 carry handle exist in another color than brown?

If this has been discussed prior, please post a link as I could not find an answer with our search feature here.

Thanks

I don't think I've ever seen an actual black L2A1 carry handle

I don't think I've ever seen an actual black L2A1 carry handle ....it would be a rare bird....Canadian are brown and if we made one here (damned if I can recall) it would be green like all our others...:wink:

As I remember the Australian L2A1 parts kits of 30 years ago all had brown carry handles.

The carrying handle for the L2A1 and C2A1 are one and the same. I'm unaware of any other carrying handles being made for the rifles.

The top four standard Australian carry handles are they different manufacturers or a change in government color specifications? Also, is there a timeline change for each? I have the top two carry handles.

Well, green's a new one for me. I'd be interested in knowing how much of the L2A1 was mfg in Canada and how much was local. We're the receivers, barrels, bipod sand such all CAL?

I don't have any evidence of official colour changes pinned to a date. Just that the green plastic carrying handle (Shiny) were introduced in 1965. The later ones were bead blasted to remove the shine. The colour difference probably comes down to production runs. Its possible the lime green were an early option but changed because they stuck out too much?

The earliest Technical Brochure I have of 1966 shows a dark green plastic handle.

Have a box of green but mine are more of a forest green, little darker than picture. Keep meaning to put on on the green metric short barrel/short gas and Tiger Stripe heavy barrel DSA SPR. Were difficult to find at time so bought all vendor had. See them more often now that don't need anymore.

Thank you for all the photos and information. This carry handle is just about impossible to find and I will have to settle for my own knockoff on a C1 build.

Anyone have detailed pictures of the end caps of these carry handles? Specifically, the ends of the metal caps and how they connect to the wire. What the crimp pattern (if there is one) looks like or is it rings.

Thanks

Anyone?

Is it the same as Brit L1a1 end caps ?

If so, I will post photos in the morning.

Hot Cocoa and Excedrin are on the menu right now.

The caps are similar to L1A1 wood caps but smaller.

Thank you! I can make those. I bought out the RTG stock of C2A1 carry handle wires. Looking to do some reproductions.

Don't worry, I'll mark them.

I have just bought an L2A1 but it has the incorrect L1A1 carry handle.
I'm after a L2A1 or C2A1 offset carry handle, anything would be appreciated.

Well, I'm getting started on this project. It won't be fast, so don't expect anything overnight. I bought a C2A1 brown carry handle to pattern a mold off of to cast some of these and it looks like I will also try my hand at some wood handles as well.

Not sure how it's all going to work out, but if you never try, you will never succeed. More to come when I have something to share.
