Is there any significance to the X inside a circle proof on an Aussie bolt? Looks like an X-men symbol...

Don't take this as gospel (somebody needs to check Skennerton's book to be sure), but I think that was an inspector's rejection mark.

Ouch! Well I certainly hope that's not the case.

First thing that popped into my head was the NATO headstamp on ammo...

As I thought...per Skennerton, it means a failed/rejected part.

Nice, its the first time I've seen one of those in the wild. Its a SCRAP mark, usually these parts would then be put aside and used to make Sectionlised or Drill Purpose rifles in the 1980's.

If you don't want it, I will give it a good home.

Well crap...I got hosed on this deal. I actually have 4 of these.

So are they totally worthless? Like I'm playing with my life if I use them? Looking at them I can't see anything wrong, but I'm sure some measurement is off somewhere.

Am the only one thinking "surely there is a DSA somewhere they will work perfectly in" ??????

Why no, I'd pay $10 or so and pay shipping for one your paperweights. Kevin has first dibs I understand. :)

I wonder if these were tested for hardness? I don't see a dimple anywhere on my Aussie Bolts, but that doesn't mean it isn't there somewhere. My guess is that they failed a "gauge" check of some sort. It would be interesting to know what Bolt Gauge/s were used and what they measured. Hope Kevin or Andy can shed some light.
