While they may look neat and feel good, they are the suck while in use. Run through a mag quick and it's hot, about halfway into the second mag and you realize you need a glove because you can smell your dickskinner cooking. Just a psa for anyone contemplating getting a deal on one.

Good to know, thanks.

I'm not much of a fan of the latest and greatest in Handguard fashion design, especially the expensive picatinny railed affairs that run nearly out to the muzzle. My last build included an AERO 9" M-Lok loc? that extends to the Gas Block. Nice clean design with no rails, but plenty of places to mount them.
Also like Magpul's MOE's, but it's not a "freefloater".

I'm not a fan either but I got one in a trade last week, will be changing it out to an old school quad rail and adding a A2 front sight if it stays. I really think it's worse than the old plastic hand guards.

Put this https://www.amazon.com/Heatshield-Products-340020-Thermaflect-Shield/dp/B000QFN3DU on the inside of the free float tube grip, even the military M16/M4 has a aluminum heat shields on the inside of the forward grips to keep it cool.

Call me old school, but i still prefer good old fashion asbestos tape that I have on my steel stg handguards. It's getting old so I have to zip tie it on to hold it good, but can't beat it on the steel handguards or my AMD 65 hand guards

That's funny - I have a fairly slim Armalite model on my AR10 and it's nothing but awesome. I've had some pretty high round counts through it too, so it's not like I haven't been getting it hot.

I've got one of the slim Armalites on my 308 too and never noticed it getting hot either, just this 5.56.... Maybe he's a lefty :)

No one on this board should be surprised or dismayed to find out metal handguards on a rifle are a Bad Idea

I just measured, they are about 3/8's of an inch from the barrel, I would guess that would be the problem.

Being made of aluminum is the problem. I don't get burned from polymer handguards

They do make those plastic handguard panels to keep your hands silky and tender. "It rubs the lotion on its skin, or it gets the hose again"
