View Full Version : Gas tube help!

Ok, I screwed up and need some help. I drilled right through both sides of my gas tube while attempting to fix a problem. The rifle is a L1A1. I have searched all of the threads a still do not have a step by step idea of how to remove the gas tube. Any help is appreciated, and yes I will buy the gunplumber video eventually.
New gas tube is already on its way from Tapco.

First, take off the gas adjustment collar by removing the snap ring and sliding it off.
Next, there is a small pin that was hidden by the gas adjustment collar. Drive it out with a 1/16" pin punch. The gas tube should now simply screw out. Use a strap wrench if it sticks.

I had the rifle refinished, and during the process the tube was threaded much deeper rendering the old gas escape hole useless. I was attempting to make a new hole when my bit drilled through everything.
