View Full Version : Mk12 Mod-H "Holland" Build

April 03, 2017, 10:17
Been doing some AR15 cloning lately. Took my most recent build out with fellow member Eyeguy Sunday for some shooting. (Don't worry, I also brought a G1.) I only took a few shots for barrel break in. Next trip will be some accuracy testing with some 77gr SMK.

This is my attempt at a Mk12 Mod-H. Mod-H rifles were retro-fitted Mk12 Mod O rifles by MSG Steve Holland and issued to 5th Special Forces Group. Consists of a mid-length SS 16" barrel, PRI Gen III FDE free float handguard with PRI Recce Rail, OPS, Inc. 12th model collar and brake, PRI gas buster charging handle, ARMS 22M rings, Geisselle SSA trigger, Sopmod stock, Harris bipod. I currently have Primary Arms 1-6x place holder. Correct builds would have Leupold Mk4 or Nightforce 2.5-10. Cheers!

Nice job! I just did a Mk12 but not impressed with the accuracy from the Douglass SPR Barrel. Hopefully just needs breaking in.

Have several Mk 12 Mod 1's but only did one Mk 12 Mod H but used a Noveske barrel. Never been disappointed with the Noveske stuff.

I'm not a fan of direct impingement AR-15's but I got to admit I always wanted a MK12. Those are some fine looking rifles. Maybe I'll breakdown and get an SPR MK12 upper receivers for my Stag Arms lower one of these days.

Fake can or one of the compact cans that reduce sound pressure to non eyeball busting? Realized a forearm change would put my 22 Nosler in the Mod 1 clone on steroids catagory.

Remember why haven't done a Mod H clone. Over $300 for a round tube with a few holes. Been digging during worst of rain, anyone used an airsoft clone on an AR 15 clone? If works w I lling to save $200 as don't see how can bugger it up too bad by time run a fuul length milspec picatinny rail entire length of tube. Otherwise will wait till find one used or make myself.

Clones builds are definitely not the most economical (or sensible) of rifle builds. But I enjoy the process and the part hunting.

Mine is in 300 blk for very quiet shooting so with tax refund money I'll file a form 1 and build a nice can when I get approved, should be a nice plinking rifle but I'm considering getting a closer range scope compared to my 4-18 scope , something like 1-7 power

Put Leupolds on seven out of ten rifles for decades. Would use fair number of Burris when they were all U.S. made, still buy on occcasion. Tried several Nikon and yet to be pleased with them. Started using Vortex on mid grade builds and more I use, more I like them. The 1-6x Strike Eagle at $299 or less out the door are finding their way on more and more of my builds. Lifetime warranty, even on electronics. When buying an extra range finder purchased a Vortex to go with a Leupold and SIG because of the lifetime warranty. If looking at the 1-7x range, look through a 1-6x Strike Eagle, very nice scope, for the money.

These will become three more Mk 12 Mod 0 and Mk 12 Mod 1 builds. Not correct barrels but have several from previous sales and shoot better than most would even be able to tell difference. Others are all sub MOA out to 400 yards with good loads. Palmetto's $229 retail 18" stainless 1:7 barrel. First time seen them on a good sale since 2015. Dropped to same $89 price as we're after Christmas 2015. Only saw on sale one day. Checked chambers, inspected with bore scope and all three looked good to go. No internal or external blemishes.

The irons came in for Flaming Pig. And like all previous units with C More aluminum body the Israeli FAB irons cowitness perfectly with red dot hovering on tip of front sight.
