View Full Version : I overpaid for a 6940

March 24, 2017, 13:37
Back in 2009.

Never shot it that much.
Upgraded the trigger and the stock.

Simple cantilever scope mount is the correct answer to what the 6940 was trying to address with the "monolithic" concept.

Anyhow, time to let it go.
Auction goes live tomorrow night at prime drinking hour.
Wonder how close I'll come to making my money back.
Not many on Gunbroker that are selling. Ones that do sell do better than I would have expected in the down-market for AR's these days.

Its at http://www.gunbroker.com/item/632451950

No pictures of the flimsy box ?

You see?!!!

I knew somebody would ask!!!

You can see where the muzzle nearly came through it when it was shipped double-boxed to the shop that transferred it to me.

Not that we haven't seen worse. Upon delivery to me, the whole barrel was sticking out - all the way to the gas block - of the kit box from the infamous FAL Files tornado group buy.

I went to bid on it and it is scheduled to start some time in the future

Not familiar with these, is the long rail a one piece affair, hand guard and all? If so, how did they barrel the thing? Barrel nut?

Similar to this

Except with the Colt, only the bottom panel is removable, and cannot be replaced with a different panel. Any cheese-grater accessories must be capable of attaching to cheeses grater.

Proprietary barrel nut.

Still shows on Colt web site, but I don't think they are currently shipping any.
So, "collector value???"

Nice rifle that answered question that really didn't need to be asked.
Which is: "How do I get enough eye-relief for my scope, without "bridging" the upper receiver and the handguard?" Correct answer is: Larue LT-104 ($210) one-piece scope mount.

This is a great weapon, I have the same model, they are a one piece monolithic upper, free floated barrel and LE marked, they are not making this rifle any longer. I added a Giessele Super Semi auto trigger on mine, this rifle shoots great and will become a future collectable, just as the SOCOMS they made. If you can swing it buy it.

With Colt, If a distributor orders say 50 to 100 of said item, They will build for that order only, Nothing more. Theirs no extra's laying around, No warehousing anymore. They've done what allot of companies have been doing for the last twenty years now. I used to be a Colt Part's distributor back in the 1990's through 2004 and then stopped ordering from Colt as there policy changed that I had to be an FFl with a store front. I used to do the Gun shows in SE Florida every weekend, Average was 49 shows a year. I guess Colt didn't like my floor plan even though I was spending about 100K a year with them.

Now they have so much financial trouble and have been bleeding money left and right and with very few off shore contracts and no US Government contracts to speak of and with the AR market so flooded with about 107 AR manufactures, But not all build complete weapons, Most just builds lowers, Prices have hit an all time low for some.

Hope you can come close to getting most of your money back Gary. Just remember this, It's tax time for most and not allot of money is changing hands right now.

W.O.A. has a:

Customer Cancellation - A4 Service Rifle Upper, Post Ban, 1-8, 0.62 Front Post W/ Pinned 1/4 MOA Carry Handle

$880 ready to ship with 20" heavy profile barrel. I have done well buying customer cancellations from them but don't play the Service Rifle game to need this type upper. If can't hang a can off the front at this price point it's not really in my price range. Can buy two of their SDM or SPR barrels and have almost enough left over to build both of them. If I played game with poodle shooters would have it in my cart already. Least I got a few needed toys.
