Does anyone know how many of the Inch pattern Australian receivers were made by DSA?
Thanks, Sparkeyboaz

Just sayin.

Seems the obvious answer would be a phone call to DSA.

Your information is more easily found here. Post the question in the inch forum asking highest DSA L1A1 serial #.

Cool! Thanks for all the suggestion .
I was curious due to the low s/n of my Aussie receiver.
I bought it from a fellow FAL files member, 1MOR some time ago. Got lucky, s/n is AD0004 and assembled w no hitches!

I just checked and mine is AD 1206 so we know they made North of 1,200.

Yeah,

My 4 are all between 100 and 200. Interesting to see they only made about 1300. Probably the best inch receiver made in the USA.

As hard as it may be to accept this, the very early Entreprise Aussie uppers were great. It was the company and the folks working the phones there who sucked. My 3 went together with no drama and run fine. One on an Aussie kit, one on a Brit kit (my first FAL-type rifle, 1994), one on an Aussie L2A1.

I had one of their Izzy receivers built as a heavy barrel Izzy and it worked great, but was already built when I got it. Anybody remember Gaspipe? I don't know how it went together.

The key to Entreprise receivers was always to find one actually manufactured by somebody else and just sold by Entreprise.

It would be nice to find one of them for sale by somebody who never built it and didn't screw it up.

I concur. The early Buena Park Receivers, and/or, any marked "ABNI" (ABN Industrial Co., Inc., 5940 Dale St. Buena Park, Ca.) are the ones to get.

Discussed else where,

http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=400093

I read the ATF made Entreprise change the address line from Buena Park to Irwindale, to reflect Entreprise's ATF license address, not the maker of the receiver, ABNI in Buena Park. Hence, Buena Park Receivers are good to go (and Pre-ban!) and the Irwindale's marked "ABNI" are also reputed to be good. I don't know when Entreprise moved away from ABNI and started to make their own junk receiver.

And what do you base this on? I'd like to know as there are many people here who would argue the contrary. Including Gunplumber who's extensively used and reviewed every receiver there ever was.

Well,

None, I'm just stirring the pot. I wrote the that the DSA L1A1 "maybe the best inch receivers made in the USA" and the immediately Enterprise sycophants show up. Coincidence I THINK NOT!

Why, you little stinker.

I got nothing so can offer nothing on the quality or ease of building on the Entreprise receivers, ABNI or otherwise. All I have is what I've read and the majority of that for the ABNI types has been positive. Internet hype repeated over and over again or truth? I don't know so I rely on people like Mark to put forth what they know and use that experience to make decisions.
The ABNI I recently acquired may go to Mark for a build, not sure yet and it all depends on what I learn in the next few weeks. The devil is in the details.

Sychophant? LOL. Today, people are going to be hard pressed to find an inch receiver for their build. Some may be faced with an opportunity to purchase an early Entreprise or an early DSA. This information is here to assist in that purchase. (FYI, I own both, and several of them too boot!) And my build days are over because no one currently makes a reliably consistent product, IMHO. Furthermore, after that barrel stunt DSA pulled on the late great Pat Jones, I will not purchase anything from DSA whatsoever, but would recommend anyone buy a DSA Inch Receiver made in 2010 from a re-seller.

And back to the original question: The highest Inch L1A1 DSA S/N observed in my collection is in the mid AD1200 range.
I bought it c. 2011 at the time Pat Jones sold me an F1 Papua New Guinea USA made Barrel.

Com'on man, Entreprise made a British inch receiver before anyone else even considered it.

So what was the barrel jack DSA pulled on Pat Jones?

Another potato and a true avocationist doesn't mind a few tweaks in reaching their goal with a FAL build. Building a FAL is an adventure not playing with Legos.

Here, let me remind you, as per the late Pat Jones, in a thread from 2011 that you participated in (really I do remember this stuff, and even spoke to Pat Jones extensively about these DSA boogers). No, really:

http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=317512

"I sent my blueprints out for quotes to several manufacturers and just before I got my first batch I heard that DSA was also producing them and I found out that they had aquired a set of my blueprints to do theirs. I looked at a sample of their barrels and confirmed that they had indeed stolen my prints, I confronted them on it and they denied it.
I had 3 options;
1- suck it up and take it like all the others who had thier ideas ripped off by them.

2- take legal action and not get anywhere except to make the lawyers rich.

3- before I sent out the blueprints for quotes I could change them in minor ways so as not to raise suspission but using them would produce a f_cked up barrel.

I chose or should I say pre-chose #3 and DSA pissed away $20-30K." Pat Jones.

Crap, I can't even remember 2011 but I got it now. What a sham.

My 8L Canadian Pat Jones built has an excellent barrel and I have no idea where he acquired it. I purchased 2 of the DSA inch barrels for $90 each with the stop machined incorrectly on the side. I believe DSA sold off most these barrels with no pin channel cuts and no gas port holes at discount.

Thanks.

Classic. Thank you for your honesty.

Most likely your Pat Jones barrel was one of these:

I miss Pat Jones. He really made the FAL Aussie Inch fun & affordable. And he really promoted DSA. What thanks DSA gave him?
