View Full Version : "shoots to the right...barrel too tight?"

After soldering my gas tube to prevent it from blowing out on firing, I went to the range with my G1/Imbel/carbine "Mutt". Well, it is functioning great. Several Mags and no problems. I decide to sight it in and cannot get enough windage adjustment out of the rear sight. It keeps shooting right. I suspect my barrel is screwed in a little too tight. Sound right? It was functioing great.

Question is if I have to back it off a little - how much will it affect headspace, gas piston operation etc. I imagine these effects will be negligable but wanted to check in with you guys/gals for your experiences. Thanks

Sounds like you've diagnosed it.

If you back the barrel off, the effect on headspace will be negligible, but you'll still want to check it.

Your gas piston, if anything, should function better; though I have seen the opposite happen. Good luck with it!

Headspace is changed by .00017" per degree of barrel rotation.

I doubt you can go 10 degrees in either direction from optimal without FUBARing the gas system.

Point of impact moves 5 m.o.a. per degree of barrel rotation.
