View Full Version : Pistol buffer on colt commando clone

I picked up a unfired psa commando clone upper from a member here just recently. I'm awaiting its arrival. I need a bcg and ch, but aside from that I picked up some 55gr American eagle ammo to feed her and break in the bbl correctly. I've never owned a 5.56 ar. (Yet I have 3 lowers:facepalm:). I guess my two questions are, will a standard pistol buffer/tube be good to go, and also I bought a carry handle rear sight for her. Are those any good keeping zero? Or should I look for an a2 upper... sorry for the newb questions... everything else in the safe is 7.62nato, 45acp, 45colt and 12g. Also... time to buy another set of dies... what'd I go an do...thanks in advance

Yes and yes...however the 2nd item, rear carry handle should be a m4 variant not the m16 variant, simply for the fact that its the 20" barrel vs the 14.5" barrel. I built an 300 BO and put a Phase 5 and Shockwave PBT on it, no issues there. Spikes lower btw, in case it matters.

I believe it should have the 3/9 or 3/6 on the rear sight though you may want to do a quick google search on this. YMMV

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check the handle for marks tomorrow when I get into the shop. I just bought it when she was 50% off awhile back knowing eventually knowing I wanted to use one in a future build.

Edited to add: these lowers were once 80%ers been so long I can't remember which brand...

The VLTOR A5 pistol RE assembly will be a bit smoother in function and with its extra length, will be a better fit for the Sig Arm Brace, if you decide to go that route

I've got the sig arm brace, I can't remember what type of pistol buffer tube is on it. A bit longer lop would be nice. I sold the pistol upper that was on it so long ago I'll have to dig it out of the safe to look at it. Time to dig out the shop door. 15 feet of snow so far in January and another 2 by the end of the weekend.

If you have the original Sig Arm Brace, you can use a rifle RE. You'll need to wrap the RE with some gaffer's tape to build up the diameter and keep the brace from spinning

The newer Galil brace won't work on a rifle RE. The way it's made, the LOP will be really long. You'll need to either use a standard pistol RE or the VLTOR A5 pistol RE, which is a tad longer. Again, you'll need to use gaffer's tape

Now don't you kids go "redesigning" anything with discussions about LoP on a "pistol!" :whistling:
