Receiver is a little rough on the left side.

PB parts other than barrel and receiver I think.

Wood seems too nice to be original.

Rubberpad on stock is clearly used also.

That is a beauty! I have a Garand receiver in the back of the safe crying for me to build into something and I really don't need another Garand (OK, just kidding about not needing another) and a BM59 would be a good choice.

Where did you get the kit? Who supplied the barrel? Who did the build? What was your total cost for the parts and labor? I might have to do this...

My JRA receiver will be delivered tomorrow. What are your overall impressions of the rifle and in particular, the receiver.

Let Shuffs build your rifle. He probably knows more about them than anyone else out there building them

I haven't broken it down yet. Going to have to watch a video online first. Receiver heel looks nice as shown on the picture I uploaded. Left side of the receiver is a little rougher than I would have expected given the vendor's reputation. Looks OK from 3 feet. In bright sunlight, the side is not as flat/even as a forged Garand; I have 2 HRA Garands. I can't see much of the right side of the receiver.

Wood looks great; obviously new stuff. The rest of the small parts metal is good; all marked PB including bolt. Rubberpad is a just good/very good... not NOS.

All in all I give it an B- grade; not too bad for $1299. I have a like new Shuff's BM14(modified M14 mag fed 7.62 Nato); I would grade that A+.

I hope your receiver meets your satisfaction.

Strangely, I noticed that JRA removed any references to BM59s that they previously had.

Thanks Sir. Complete rifle from Classicfirearms. $1299.99 plus ship and transfer.

Very nice, JRA does good work. Looks like they lowered the cost by $200.00 for the Cast receiver. The stock is original, they re-finish them.

BM59 magazines. Can be a bit more $ then say M14 checkmates. Pretty sure ONLY BM59 mags work.

I wasn't referring as to which magazines work - Sarco has BM59 magazines for cheap right now (http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/bm59-308-20-round-magazine.aspx) - but if all BM59 magazines work without modification.
JRA sent this out with their stripped receivers:

Thanks brother but I should have been quicker and got a modified forged Springfield receiver like a number of the other guys did with the earlier batch.

Looks like the complete rifle from Classic is maybe a little better deal than putting together one with Shuff's. By the time you source the parts, find a barrel and a receiver, then pay the assembly fee you could have a complete rifle from Classic.

Never an easy decision...dang.

Cheaper isnt always better. Since the glut of BM59 parts have hit the market builders have been throwing these rifles together and there have been problems/ issues.

I only acquired 6 mags - All mags were like new and they all fit fine, no mods needed.

Did you get one of the "ClassicFirearms" rifles also? I got mags from Sarco. A bit late to the party so they are only "good" condition; no dents or gouges but fair amount of park gone. I hit them with Brownells Aluma-Hyde and they look good enough.

Shuff's really knows his stuff and his workmanship is outstanding but I don't think you generally get complete rifles in stock from him.

The BM59 from Classic was a bit of spur of the moment having missed the forged receiver batch.

BM59 build by Shuff will cost between $1,600 and $1,900 depending on cost of Garand receiver and if you use a Garand .308 barrel he converts or an already correct BM59 barrel.

How bad are cast receivers in the M1 family anyway? I mean, I assume my Imbel FAL receiver is cast and it seems to be doing ok.

Cast isn't the problem, out-of-spec is.

No - Mine was a Centerfire Kit and JRA Home Build. I documented a review on ar15.com GD forum. Absolutely no problems with the receiver as far as building it. I used a Sarco Barrel, 2 mags were from Sarco, One Mag from Centerfire (came from kit) remainder from Std parts - All mags were excellent- like new condition. The heel markings on my JRA receiver are not as deep or clear as the pic of the one posted that came from classic arms, but its merely cosmetic. Otherwise the build was easy - way easier than expected. Barrel timed nearly perfect, bolt and other parts fit well. The extra Para stock required a little wood fitting as it was a little tight with the trigger group - that is to be expected.

I just read through the post on AR15.com, interesting and informative. Are any modifications required to the Garand receiver? For the build it just goes together like a Garand, no special tools, jigs, or anything?

As you can see I am seriously thinking...

Tim is the only guy I'd trust for this - mine nearly dropped together! Same standard Garand tools, except .308 headspage gauges instead of .30-'06.

I really wish JRA had done the proper front pin and actually asked somebody - anybody - that actually knew anything about using the undersized pin and bushing. It is not required by (B)ATF(E), and cannot make the rifle full-auto.

About this barrel pin thingie, if you get a receiver instead of an entire rifle you should be able to ream the hole out to use the proper Beretta/Garand pin, right?

For whatever reason, there's a longstanding rumor that machining the hole for the pin in question - the follower arm pin on an M1 - can make the gun run full-auto. It can't. Beretta machined the hole out for a larger, hollow pin - which retains the forward magazine catch - and has the selector controls through it.
The only thing that makes an M1/BM59 full-auto is if the hole for the trip lever pin is machined on the right side of the receiver.
JRA, like some others, is using a standard Garand follower arm pin and a sleeve to hold the forward mag catch in place. It works, but it isn't 'in spec' to what I want - and there's no real reason for it.
My larger concern is the bolt hold-open issue.

Got 2 in today. They seem pretty nice. Can't post pics photobucket is having issues and won't let me login to upload pics. Receivers seem to be decent quality overall finish is good. Mags are a bit loose. Both have obviously been fired at the multiple times at the factory for function check. We'll see how they do Sunday.

Shoot Sunday funday 3/19 in Warrenton MO if anyone can make it.
