Looking to trade into a BM59. Fixed stock, looks like the Ital kits currently on the market. Any words of wisdom for when I look it over, what to be aware of?
Reciever markings are

P. BERETTA
7.62mm BM59
GardoneV.T.
Italia
(Serial Number)

I think in the 1800 range. Thanks in advance.

Sound like a Springfield Armory Inc. BM59. Is it marked "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY / GENESEO IL USA" on the left side of the receiver beneath the elevation knob?

Take a trip over to Tim Shuflin's "Battle Tested" forum.

Lot's of good information archived there.

Sounds like a real Beretta BM 62, not a BM 59. That is the correct serial number range the real deal 62. Most of the time on the 62's the rubber recoil pad on the stocks would start to deteriorate.

Also, the BM 62 did not have the iconic BM 59 tri-compensator muzzle 'device,' but just a much shorter and simpler one...

Also, the BM 62's did not have a bipod or the provision to mount one!

Should be marked SPRINGFIELD ARMORY on the left side of the receiver, as others have noted. $1800 is well below current market value!

Was the 1800 meant to be the serial number range or the price range?

Serial range. He wants 3k worth of trade goods.

And don't try to run a 59 or 62 without either the 59 tricomp or the 62 muzzle "gadget". Neither mine nor the two others I have shot will run reliably without them, at least in otherwise stock form.

Would love to find a source for some kind of replacement pad. If I shot the 62 much, I'd probably look for a 59 stock and buttplate.

Really nice shooting rifles, BTW, with excellent fit and finish. Magazines are a work of art, albeit heavy as bricks !!!!

Ah! $3k is a good price, 1800 is the right serial range for a 'factory' gun - there were some fakes made in recent years with higher serial numbers.

He showed me a picture and this rifle in question has the same marking like this under the elevation knob.

Yes, I know. Trades would be stuff that has not seen light of day in a while if I would.

I would like an Alpini/Paracudisti stock although probably uncomfortable to shoot. The Nigerian would be fun if it was an NFA example.

If anything, this rifle makes me appreciate a regular old M1 Garand that much more. Still like those better!

I was able to pick this up for much less than I thought and with 5 extra magazines. They mostly had black followers (but still BM59 springs) that I replaced with the normal metal followers. I think the really high asking price was to ward off tire kickers and people trying to trade a broken guitar and a Tapco'd SKS. Was sold as unfired, but I don't buy it. It is no longer unfired by me anyways.

Lucky you - those things are GREAT! Sarco has magazines for $25/ea if purchased in quantity, and there's never been a better time to pick up spare parts!

I love that flip up butt plate. I wish I could find a couple of those for mine.

I was able to do the c-clip mod to the bolt catch pin to retain it now.

Glad it worked out for you with the C-clip mod. Here are the links again for those reading this later and wanting to do the mod:
