I'm blind as a bat now and can't hit the inside of the barn. How can I put a sight on an Arsenal AK 74 with nothing on the side to attach a rail for a sight. You guys know more than I do about a Kay's. Yes it's spelled wrong I'm using talk to text on a little bitty phone so for your grammar Nazis pound sand. If you can help me figure This shit out. Thank you very much Richard aka RT. member of the Fal Files for a long time. Merry Christmas to you and your family

+1 ^^^ I have one on a Yugo AK. Easy install and works well. Add a good red dot and you'll be set.

I second the Ultimak and good red dot. I have an Aimpoint H1/Ultimak combo riding a converted Saiga 5.45X39. It is a sweet shooter and a go to blaster. I am grooving on a Trijicon MRO these days. It is IMHO a better value with the prices Aimpoints are going for these days.

Another vote for the Ultimak, a great RD mount system for the AK.

Get an AK Mastermount. It is a sidewall mount that is easily user-installed with no hassles and made to fit any AK.I have one on one of my 74's and it works great and looks good too.

I can't see the rear blade sights on an SKS, AK 47, or AK 74 anymore. Not well enough to use them anyway. So I dropped a rear peep sight into an SKS and it worked great. They make them for the 74 too.

Took a few minutes to install.

Not as nice as that rail and a red dot. But it's $20. I'm very comfortable with peep sights if that makes a difference.

I suppose in a few years I won't be able to see the front post either :whistling:

I tried the dust cover replacements, but they wouldn't hold zero for me.

I'm now using the Attero Arms Bravo mount, with a Trijicon RMR.

YMMV.

I am going to start accepting new FAL work on Jan 15. I still have 10+ orders from 2016 but I think I'll be close to finishing by then.

Any way - I'm expecting over 100 fals from the inquiries I've had over the last 6 months. So I won't be taking anything other than FALs at first. Thakes me 3x longer to do an AK than a FAL, and 4-5x longer to do an HK. So I'm going to stick to FALs.

March or April, I might be able to decide on accepting AK stuff.

In the meantime, the ultimak is really good for a red dot. Only reason for the side rail is a heavier optic. I have both on my guns. I've rarely used the side mount but I figure it is unobtrusive, and it offers versatility I may never use, but at least it's there. Maybe my grandchildren will use it.

Take a look at the AK Master Mount (https://www.premiershootingsolutions.com/products.html). It is easy to install and rock solid and when you are done you have a side rail without making any permanent modifications to your rifle. You remove the trigger and hammer pins and then replace those with special pins that come with the mount to attach the mount to the side of the receiver.

I think you should just install a side rail like gp said. lots of you-tube vids on how to do it. i'm sure if you put a post up for help on the akfiles there should be a member near by that could assist you... :fal:

No point in a side rail if U R only running a Red Dot. Bigger optics yes as GP said. Just be aware the Ultimak is gas tube propriety., U have to use the one w the Ultimak & taking it off is a no go unless U want to zero that Red Dot every time. Clean it w the tube in place.

I do not understand what you mean by proprietary. Yes, gas tube clamps to barrel and is not removable without tools. But the red dot can be removed from the gas tube/rail and reinstalled with minimal affect on zero.

Ya rail & tube R together unless one is inclined to remove one from the other., ya U can take it off 4 screws & 2 brackets later. My point was it is not as simple as a standard AK gas tube removal. Not sure how much re-zeroing is required if one does remove the assembly. Some I would say.
